| Description:
The Waltz And Variations
in E-Minor, by composer Gary Edwards, was
originally written for piano but is adapted for standard bass accordion
by Joseph Natoli. The piece consists of a beautiful waltz melody, followed
by progressively more difficult variations. The first variation follows
with the accented melody interspersed with eighth notes. The second
variation has the melody in the bass line with triplets playing simultaneously
in the treble clef. On occasion there are eighth note rhythms played
simultaneously against triplet eighth note rhythms; a difficult exercise,
which may cause some performers to choose to skip this variation.
For variety there is a brief 4/4 march section with a
new melody introduced, followed by a third variation featuring an accented
melody interspersed with sixteenth notes.
The sixteenth notes variation is followed by a recitativo
section in adagio tempo with middle eastern-flavored scales and arpeggios
played rubato in rhythm. The difficulty of this section depends on
the tempo chosen by the performer but will give virtuoso performers a chance
to shine and display the outer parameters of the instrument.
The last variation is actually a repeat of the sixteenth
notes variations. Enjoy this example. |
