Following is the composer's description of this this very poignant piece dedicated to Astor Piazzola, which can be heard on Guy Klucevsek's Transylvanian Software CD (a 1994 John Marks Records release).

"Bandoneons, Basil and Bay Leaves is a solo free-bass accordion piece written in memory of the late, great composer, arranger and bandoneon player extraordinaire, Astor Piazzolla. It is written in theme-and-variations style, putting the theme through several stylistic transformations, including Gershwin-like harmonizations, a passacaglia, some virtuoso pyrotechnics, and a chorale, all in the spirit of the nuevo tango, which Piazzolla pioneered."
