"Bandoneons, Basil and Bay Leaves is a solo free-bass accordion piece written in memory of the late, great composer, arranger and bandoneon player extraordinaire, Astor Piazzolla. It is written in theme-and-variations style, putting the theme through several stylistic transformations, including Gershwin-like harmonizations, a passacaglia, some virtuoso pyrotechnics, and a chorale, all in the spirit of the nuevo tango, which Piazzolla pioneered." |
