"Rondo Polska (meaning
'Polish Rondo') is a polka in the classical Rondo form: ABACADA, etc. in
which the principal theme is contrasted by various secondary themes.
The introduction, Andante quasi
fantasia (mm. 1-11) introduces the principal motive - A A A - in augmentation
and repeats it thrice before the actual polka tempo begins. The introduction
also introduces fragments from the secondary themes.
The melody in m.2 (which is repeated
in the left hand, 6 measures later, but 4 octaves lower) appears later
in the principal theme.
The melody in m. 4 appears later
in the D theme (Trio II) and the melody in m. 6 appears later in the B
theme.
The end of the introduction introduces
the trill, which figures prominently later in a variation on the principal
theme.
The primary motive of the piece
A - A - A (mentioned earlier) is echoed in the left hand during all the
interludes (B, C and D) -- although not always in the original key -- as
well as during repetitions of the principal theme.
Rondo Polska is an exciting piece,
which never fails to draw smiles and applause from audiences. The piece
can be heard on compact disc, available from the publisher."
