| Description:
John Franceschina's Concerto
for Accordion Orchestra is a creation the
accordion world is simply not fortunate enough to see as much today as
we did in the accordion's luster years (when the Deiro's, Galla-Rini's,
and others were at the height of their careers in the 30's - 50's).
Also in Europe in the 60s we had composers like Torbjorn Lundquist and
Wolfgang Jacobi pursuing this form for the accordion as well in a much
more contemporary idiom. There is no doubt that musical maturity
and dedication to our instrument are prerequisites for a project like this
to materialize. We accordion enthusiasts are the very fortunate benefactors
of Mr. Franceschina's unstoppable creativity and dedication and should
be extremely appreciative that he continues to pursue this elevated art
form for our instrument. This work would be an especially important
addition to the repertoire of any serious accordion orchestra, and the
fact that it is engraved rather than in original manuscript is an especially
important point in the readability and reduced rehearsal times for established
ensembles. The work is written in a contemporary style in three movements
entitled Fantasia, Scherzo & Arioso, and
Rondo, and is just one of many more accordion ensemble pieces
from Mr. Franceschina. Hopefully with luck and time, JANPress
will be fortunate enough to bring these creations to you as well. |
