| Description:
Toccata No. 2,
completed in 2007, is a natural sequel to Joseph Natoli's
Toccata No. 1, but according to the composer, "with the added perspective
of 40 years of additional composition experience and perspective since the
first Toccata." Like it's predecessor Toccata No. 2 exploits the technical,
textural, and colorisitc possibilities of the free bass accordion. However,
it tends to cover a lot more compositional ground and is a much more mature work
in the way that it develops and explores themes and motivic elements. Except for the middle slower section,
Toccata No. 2 tends
to be more consistently driven towards it final climactic goal with a very high
energy level sustained throughout the piece. Toccata
No. 2 is a virtuostic tour de force and should prove to be every bit as desirable as Toccata
No. 1, which has been performed by many virtuosi throughout the United
States and Europe. |
