EVERGREENS
(see
tape contents below)
"Most of these songs
are from the "Golden Age of Music", the 30's and 40's. It was the
era that produced many of the great standards or "Evergreens".
Coinciding with the rise in the popularity of the accordion, the music
and the instrument were extremely compatible. The songs are very
melodic, making possible interesting harmonic choices.
...
This album is somewhat of a
departure from anything I've done in the past. My objective was to
show that the accordion can be a solo instrument in a jazz setting as well
as classical or folk music as it has been heretofore. Although I
thoroughly enjoy playing with good rhythm sections when available, I really
love the challenge playing solo provides. It gives complete freedom
regarding tempo, harmony, bass line choices, freeing you to be more inventive
in the moment. In recent concerts, the solo improvisation has been
so well received that it has become an important addition to my repertoire."
