"Jazz has produced only
very few renowned accordion players such as Art Van Damme, Joe Mooney,
pete Jolly, Leon Sash, Tommy Gumina. However, there is one accordion
player missing from our list who is relatively unknown to public audiences
in spite of being active on the music scene for many years. Frank
Marocco has worked as a studio musician in numerous films and television
programs ranging from 'Dr. Zhivago', to 'The Godfather', to 'Dallas', to
'Magnum'. He has worked with composers such as Quincy Jones and Lalo
Schriffrin and has recorded with show business greats such as Frank Sinatra
and Liza Minelli and that's to mention but a few. Wolfgang Russ deserves
great credit for having invited this truly excellent musician now the third
time to Germany. We can hear how good Frank Marocco can play on every
title on this CD and in particular in the amazing solos 'Cheek To Cheek'
and 'Prelude to a Kiss'. Included on this CD is all you could ever
wish for: perfect timing combined with melodic feeling and harmonic versatility
performed with improvised fantasy and virtuoso ease. This is a discovery
to marvel at. Let's hope that Frank Marocco will return to Germany
often and that television will discover him next time."
